Pharmacy Web Design
Pharmacy Web Design & Development
Medialion builds websites and digital tools for independent pharmacies — refill portals, HIPAA-aware intake, OTC e-commerce, and care-program pages. 18 years in Travelers Rest, SC.
Independent pharmacies are being squeezed from two sides. On one flank, the big chains have spent the last decade pouring capital into slick mobile apps, text-message refill reminders, and same-day delivery from a warehouse three states away.
On the other, GoodRx-style comparison shoppers have trained a generation of patients to price-check their prescriptions before they even decide where to fill. If your storefront is your only real front door, you are competing with one hand tied behind your back.
Medialion has been building websites and custom digital tools out of Travelers Rest, South Carolina for 18 years.
We work with national brands and Upstate businesses alike, and pharmacy has become one of the corners of the industry we know best — in large part because of our long relationship with PostMEDS, an independent pharmacy technology client whose work has taught us how the pieces actually fit together behind the counter.
Why an independent pharmacy needs more than a brochure site
The pharmacies that hold their ground against chain competitors are the ones that give patients a reason to choose them, and then make it frictionless to stay. That means:
- A refill experience that is at least as fast as CVS or Walgreens on a phone
- Clear, trustworthy pricing signals for cash-pay and uninsured customers
- Real, human-written education content that answers the questions patients are already Googling
- Services (compounding, MTM, immunizations, adherence packaging) surfaced as care programs, not buried three menu levels deep
A modern pharmacy website is not marketing collateral. It is an operational surface — an extension of the pharmacy counter that never closes.
What we build for pharmacies
Every pharmacy has a different mix of retail, clinical, and specialty work, so we scope to the pharmacy in front of us rather than shipping a template. The most common components we assemble:
- Prescription refill portals — either integrated with your existing pharmacy management system via API or built as a routed intake queue that lands in a staff dashboard your techs already check
- HIPAA-aware forms and patient intake — encrypted transport, minimal data retention on the web tier, ePHI kept out of general-purpose form providers, and audit logging where it belongs
- E-commerce for OTC, supplements, durable medical equipment, and compounding kits — with real inventory, tax handling, and shipping rules, not a WooCommerce demo
- Care-program landing pages for compounding, medication therapy management, adherence packaging, immunizations, and hormone replacement — each with its own intake flow and conversion path
- Patient education content — condition guides, medication counseling articles, and post-visit resources written to actually rank and actually help
- Appointment booking for consultations, vaccinations, point-of-care testing, and MTM visits, with reminders and staff-side calendars

PostMEDS
pharmacy technology platform
Our work with PostMEDS has spanned the front-of-house marketing site through to interfaces that touch the operational core of an independent pharmacy. That has meant balancing plain-language explanations for patients and prospective partner pharmacies against the more technical surfaces the platform actually exposes. It has also meant thinking hard about how a national-scale independent-pharmacy tool represents itself online without pretending to be a chain.
Care-program microsite for a compounding line
A pharmacy running a growing compounding practice needed each program — bio-identical hormone therapy, veterinary, pediatric flavor compounding, LDN — to have its own front door with a tailored intake form, a physician-referral path, and content deep enough to earn organic traffic for the specific compounds patients search by name. The result was a measurable lift in referral-form completions and a meaningful reduction in “just calling to ask” phone volume.
Compliance, quietly handled
Pharmacy sites live in a compliance neighborhood most agencies never visit. We treat that as table stakes:
- HIPAA-aware data handling. ePHI does not touch systems that were not designed for it. Where a form collects protected information, we use vetted transport, segregated storage, appropriate BAAs, and retention rules that default to less. Where a form does not need to collect ePHI, we design it not to.
- PII segregation. Marketing analytics, session replay, and third-party pixels do not get access to authenticated portal traffic. The refill queue is not in the same bucket as your blog comments.
- WCAG accessibility. Pharmacy patients skew older and more likely to use assistive technology. We build to WCAG 2.1 AA as a baseline — real keyboard navigation, real contrast, real screen-reader labeling on the forms that matter — not a compliance-widget overlay.
- Consent and disclosure. Cookie banners, telehealth disclaimers, and program-specific consent language sit where regulators expect to find them.
Built for South Carolina, deployed nationally
We are based in the Upstate and we understand the shape of pharmacy here — the rural counties where the independent pharmacy is often the closest healthcare touchpoint a patient has, the DHEC coordination that comes with immunization programs and point-of-care testing, and the referral relationships with local prescribers that a national chain simply cannot replicate.
For SC pharmacies, we can build local — location pages that actually rank for the small towns you serve, program pages that speak to underserved-market realities, and integrations with the state systems your staff already use.
For pharmacies outside South Carolina, the same playbook travels. We have 18 years of shipping digital work for clients across the country from this same small town.
